No MID Info

Post by kanewesley » Mon Aug 24, 2020 8:03 am

I have no MID info on the binnacle in my X5 E53.
where does it get it's information from to display?
It has a "HIGH" binnacle.
Everything on it is good but no MID info....ie consumption data, clock, stopwatch, fuel left, temperture etc. etc.
The 20 digit disply between the >....................< arrows is good because I get various messages displaying, ie fasten seat belt, check wiring tail lights etc.
There is just no info regarding the car.
Car this information source be reset on the Binnacle....I have read somewhere about a hidden menu and function 7?
Where is this info displayed from?

Thanks

No....It all happened when the battery completely flattened.

AS I say, the display works because it tells me to fasten my seatbelt.

There's just no display regarding temp, cock / date, stopwatch consumption, fuel left etc etc

How strange not heard of that one before??
May be try the battery disconnect trick see if that kicks it back into life? If you have diagnostics available may be a software restart?

Good luck

Done the battery disconnect.

Cannot restart the software as BMW scanner does not recognise the MID module...."module not found "

Not an expert on BMW‘s, but a few things that might be worth checking, firstly is the battery fully charged before you reconnected, is should be showing at least 12.6 volts after being disconnected from the charger for about an hour?
Also did you leave it disconnected from the car for 30 seconds or so before reconnecting it?

To initiate the magic reset it should be disconnected for 20 to 30 minutes.....

All the above have been tried time and time again.

Still not been successful in finding out where this information ( temp, consumption, time, stopwatch etc etc) comes from??????

My car came with an aftermarket head unit and no MID unit so i don't get any info.
Looked up about it when i first got the car and it is down to the MID unit missing.
Apparently some people that have gone aftermarket extended the MID wires and located it in the glove box.
A bit long winded but it's the MID that controls that info.

They have moved the display panel the bit with buttons on.
If that is faulty you will get the same problems you have.
