Wheel Setup

Post by divelab » Tue Sep 07, 2010 9:28 pm

Ello again!

:sos: Am looking to replace my existing summer rims (275/40 R19s) with some 2 pairs of Cross Spoke 177 255/50 R19s.

Now is that highly unrecommended considering the back tires perhaps need to be wider than the front (ie, back should probably be 285/45 R19s)?
Or is the consensus that I can even paint them pink if i like? :hairdryer:

Is 255/50 on all fours going to damage the car in some way? Any theories?

Youd be better off with 235/65/17

Narrower tyres, cheaper, cheaper rubber and loads of deals on ebay.

Narrow tyres are best for winter grip particularly in the snow they exert greater pressure and will cut in wide tyres float and slip about struggling for grip and are less likely to aquaplane. So narrow high-profile tyres are preferable.

sounds good to me. so you don't think there's any issue with all four being the same dimensions?

No problem - in fact, that's BMWs recommended size for winter wheels for E53 X5s, except for the 4.8, which needs 18" wheels. You can go back to your staggered set up when summer returns :D
