MOT Costs

Post by rbell11 » Thu Sep 16, 2010 8:48 pm

Had my first MOT with the X and it failed on some minor points, both front CV gaiters and a directional front tyre which had been put on the wrong way round :x

Anyway whilst doing the work the bush in the nearside lower track rod was found to be perished so that had to be replaced as well for the ticket. The garage agreed to fit this without additional labour - Total bill £180 inc VAT. No MOT retest fee either :D

For anyone in my region the garage is Checkpoint on the North Cheshire trading estate on the Wirral. Good friendly and honest service.

That is very reasonable. I have a CV Gaitor that needs replacing too so hopefully I shouldn't see such a big bill for this.

MOT Costs

Post by ITBarbie » Fri Sep 17, 2010 10:04 am

That's a great price. Mine failed on gaiter split and had it done under MOT promise with BMW. 6 weeks later other side went and a noise under drivers side was diagnosed as the drop link needing replacing. It was approx £250 all in with £175 being for gaiter replacement.

Funny thing was they also noticed that my front were the wrong way round as well.

Just a reminder that VW dealers are doing a £30 MOT testing fee for all makes of cars. This deal is on at least until the end of the year (with the usual at participating dealers only blah blah).

Just went there for my free coffee, news paper and a bit of car oggling earlier in the week and £30 later had a fresh MOT certificate :)

That was the bit I was devastated about my garage Checkpoint has put the MOT fee up to £35, its been £25 for a year or so. Still cheaper than most though:thumbsup:

In my experience an over zealous tester can have more bearing on v.f.m.

I have some idea on the test, crawl all over my cars before MOT & cause anything of concern to be sorted in advance. I am on first name terms with my tester & always see it being done. He's fair but no push over.......Last pass he did for me was at end of a day when he had correctrly failed everything else that he had on the ramps.
