BMW X5 4.4i 2001 - ABS + TRANS SAFE FAIL PROG

Post by Patrick » Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:28 pm

Hi,

I have a problem with my X5.
I am not sure if this is a coincidence or not but just after a car wash (no engine cleaning) I had the ABS light come up (10 min after the car was washed)
Then few days later TRANS SAFE FAIL PROG has come up, gearbox is going into the limb mode and lots of strange things happening:
- temperature gauge goes to maximum
- speedo drops to 0
- rev gauge drops to 0

The new battery has been fitted today. It did not change anything.

I went to the transmission specialist. He plugged in the computer, and checked the abs connection, but said it was fine. He said that there is a small chance that it is a transmission problem, and more likely it is something to do with abs.
He said that the gearbox will go to the limb mode if there is a problem with anything to do with wheels turning related stuff.

Here is the reading:

DME/DDE                                          2F
(Motor/Diesel Electronics)
221                                                  CAN Timeout ASC/DSC
220                                                  CAN timeout, electronic transmission management (EGS/AGS)

EGS                                                  2F
transmission control
128                                                  CAN bus Monitoring
130                                                  CAN ABS/DSC signal

Has anyone had a similar problem and would be so kind to tell me what to check/do next.

Thank you in advance.
