Sat Nav Update

Post by mark09 » Sun Mar 22, 2015 8:18 am

Looking to update my current professional Sat Nav system on the 2011 X5! Is it as simple as buying the DVD update as per the link?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Sat-Nav-D ... 2a39935db9

or best let the dealer update for me next time it is in for a service.

Thanks

You have the CIC iDrive system not the CCC system this disk is for.  Your maps go on the hard drive, not stay on that DVD.

The maps are £25 from BMW and the licence key to use them £185 last time I checked.  A dealer will charge another £100 in labour to install them.  It is a DIY job, but takes several hours for the 3 DVD version, or rather less using the 3 USB key version.  You still need a licence key though, and that is unique and generated from your VIN.

Not sure of the legality regarding licencing purchasing the 'licence key' here - but there appears to be a ready market in key generation if you have bought the maps themselves.

Note of Caution....discussion of non OEM is against the Forum rules as BMW are getting feisty about it!  They want their large quantities of money - regardless of how we as Owners might feel.... >:(

If you haven't purchased an update from a dealer yet, I'd wait a few weeks. I believe the 2015 CIC map update ("Premium") for Europe is due out at some point soon in April

I can confirm the ebay seller of the fcs code shown above provides you with an offical bmw code on a bmw headed paper, how he gets them so cheap I don't know. I purchased a lifetime code  from him and my x5 , my carno longer asks for the fsc key when upgrading now, he doesn't use the fsc generators, he only needs your vin number.

These sellers have must have connections with Bmw to retrieve the 1B file needed for map licence generation!

Yours is the E53 model and not the E70 referred to above..
You don't have the same system in there...
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Straight swap of DVD.  No codes, but still around £200 for the new disc.  :o
