Panoramic roof help

Post by Ricky » Sun Jun 18, 2017 8:33 pm

Hi folks need help here, I've opened my roof today to tilt and it now won't close!! It seems like it's stuck at the front driver side!? It begins to close then you hear something click or catch and it re-opens again!!

The roof will need reintialised
Percivere with the close button, you may have to take for a drive, (one of the few things potholes come in handy for) once closed enable the reintialisation
Ensure the roof and blind is closed then press and hold the button forward for circa 2mins the blind will open the roof will tilt and retract through its function, only release the button several seconds after the blind has closed.

I'd be inclined to run it through the function
If it's not going to close leave both sides open as you'd stress the glass leaving it with one side down.

It may settle in lower air temps.  Certainly leaving both sides up will be safer - as said above.  Heat can cause some distortion and the white metal castings can fracture if overstressed - and that usually means a new roof cassette unless you can find spares (BMW don't hold them).

Unfortunately pano roofs are a known weak area and not just with BMW, though it is usually the rear section.

If it won't reinitialise then a Dealer visit may be needed so they can run their magic software over it.

Long shot but sometimes a battery disconnect (for 30 mins) clears the gremlins

the first night i got our car home after buying it and indeed testing the roof it rained.  i went to close the roof and i got the constant up and down of th efront section.  you tube and there was the problem, solved by nipping bit of plastic out of the runners.  the rear section wont lift at the back any more but the front works as it should.
seems that is the most cost efficient cure.

My two folds up and down but only on one side, on top of that my shade stopped working in the open position.
When I do the reset test it has a crackling sound what can it be?
