Front brake disc retaining screw

Post by Pradaman » Tue Jan 16, 2018 5:31 pm

Changing the discs and pads on my2009 E70 3.5 D today and the threads on the retaining screw are not the beat. Does anyone know what the thread size is on the screw as I need to tap it out and also do the new discs come with new screws? It’s the screw that holds the disc onto the hub. It is removed using a 6mm Allen key.

I’m sure the thread is M6, the thread pitch I’d be guessing without looking though.
I have a tap in the garage I can check if required

That would be great if you could check. I’m not sure if it’s m8 or m6. Need to get a tap in the morning.

New discs don't come with new screws, you have to buy them separately. I had to drill both of mine out as the garage who changed the discs last tightened the screws too much! Not sure what size tap you need. Don't really know why the screw is there as the 5 wheel studs hold the disc in place anyway!

My new discs that I fitted a few months ago came with new screws.
And the discs for our Z4 came with new screws too.
Maybe different brands of discs give you screws, mine were Brembo.

I’m talking drivel (sorries)
Ventured to garage found the tap set and it’s m8 x 1.25
Checked on realoem to ensure I wasn’t mistaken and true enough there M8 x 14mm

Whilst correct, there not really needed, but do make wheel removal & refitment a lot easier unless you have one of these

Though still a pain
