Engine knock - suspected big end bearing problem

Post by acideraser » Wed Jul 04, 2018 5:50 pm

Hi All,

I am back again on this forum as another problem with our X5.
It's just over 94k now, had timing chain replaced at 90k and now engine knocking / ticking sound appeared  :'(

Took it to garage and they think it's a serious problem and they would need to take engine out to confirm what it is but most likely would need engine re-build, waiting for a quote now. This is not a dealer but specialist BMW/Mini garage, same people who replaced timing belt.

So I'd like to hear experts opinion on what may be best course of action here:
a) rebuild engine and sell
b) sell to people who buy car with problems like www.sellyourproblemcar.com
c) buy and get second-had engine fitted and sell mine for parts
d) try to sell it as part exchange with dealer for approved 1 year old car - if they actually agree to take faulty vehicle - has anyone tried this before?

Your input will be much appreciated

cheers,
acideraser
