Rear Right Fog Light Failure Warning

Post by devm69_x5 » Tue Jan 08, 2019 10:04 pm

Hi Guys,

so in think this is again a common fault with water etc., but im getting on the dash every few days a warning saying as above " Rear Right Fog Light Failure ", although still seems to be working ok. seen a few videos about getting into the tailgate and removing the whole light unit in the tailgate itself- but was wondering if you can just replace the one bulb for the fog lights, finding it hard to tell if the fog light is an actual bulb and part of the led unit or do you need to replace the whole thing. also- if its just a bulb do you know if you can get a replacement for the gasket as believe old breaks down and causes lots of issues anyway.

any help appreciated as usual

so no one had ever had to replace the rear fog light on an e70 x5 ?

bit surprising :)

anyway the more I think about this the more I think the fog light must be a bulb and not an led strip, just don't think standard led's in cars of my age ie 2010 would be bright enough for a fog light, and the fact you can buy rear for bulbs for an x5 points to a bulb in the tailgate unit.

I intend to remove the plastic tomorrow and see if I can get to the back of the unit without removing the whole thing- if I had a replacement gasket I would rip the whole thing out myself to check

Thanks

for anyone who has a blown fog light- do it yourself. easy as and its a bulb that you can simply replace
you have to remove the plastic cover on the boot lid, 2 screws, middle emergency boot release, 2 lights and use a plastic tool to simply pull away the plastic cover away, then bulbs are usual twist to remove.
