Air Mass Sensor recommendations please?

Post by Dibs » Tue Feb 12, 2019 2:31 pm

2008 X5 Msport E70 model:

3FF1 Air Mass Sensor error code has popped up again and it's the Air Flow Mass Sensor so need to replace it.

Can not afford to buy OEM from the dealers so looking else where to source the part.

Euro-parts as selling them at £200+
E bay differ from £25 to £200+

Why such a difference in prices?

Any recommendations and feed back greatly appropriated.

Thanks

Chinese copy to genuine OEM part (not in a BMW badged box). Not sure who makes the OEM one.

Bought cheap ebay ones before for a 330d with 1 year guarantee , replaced 4 times in a year under warranty gave up 4th time as they just sent out a broken one ! don't believe the positive feedback remember people leave it when it arrives and they work for about a month :headbang:
Not sure what you should buy for the e70 other than not a 25 quid one !

Update: i brought a branded Air Mass flow sensor from GSF (was 60% off all products) and a few other service parts in the process.

Had it fitted only took 10mins to do - quite easy to be honest, and the car has no engine light on dash (cleared all error codes).

Only issue i find is the MPG is more or less staying at 18.5mpg which is frustrating since its use to do around 21mpg on average doing normal local driving - any suggestions to improve that perhaps if at all? :? its a long shot but worth a try on trying to improve MPG on the old X5 3.0d MSport..

Thanks for all the advise on the air flow sensor guys, appreciated.

Is it getting up to temp.
The gauge can bi incorrect look in the hidden menu or plug id some diagnostics kit and give it a 20 minute or longer run.

Unless that's all town driving 18 mpg is a bit severe I just changed my stats ( change both ) as my temp which you can display as youdrive with the hidden menu was only 65c after 10 miles and should have been 88c , I was getting 25 mpg before and now showing 29 mpg over 350 mile with a good few longer runs of 20 miles as well as town driving.
If its getting to temp no point changing them and you can see how to do it on you tube and you need to add the last 5 digits of vin number together to get a number to unlock the dash :D ,enter it in menu 19 then go to menu 7 for engine temp.
