2012 E70 40d Transfer case failure

Post by chill6834 » Wed Jul 31, 2019 3:04 pm

Hi all,

My name is Carl and I've joined the forum today looking for recommendations to get my transfer case replaced or repaired.

My car is a 2012 X5 40d with 64,000 miles on it and with a full main dealer service history. It has the standard 20" wheels and approved star rated tyres.

I'd really appreciate any recommended repairers or advice.

Many thanks in advance

Carl

Rybrook BMW took a look at my car and confirmed that the front prop was fine and that the issue was with the Transfer Case. Upon hearing this I immediately complained to BMW UK stating that for a former approved used car with below average miles and a full main dealer history this simply wasn't good enough. I also stated that as far as im aware the transfer case is not part of any service schedule and the fluid that it contains is for the life of the vehicle, so is the true life of a 2012 E7 only 64,000 miles?

BMW uk agreed to look into this for me and with the help of Rybrook in Wolverhampton BMW UK contributed £2500 towards the replacement of my transfer case.

Yes I've still had fork out £1500 but the car was out of warranty and the work has been completed by bMW technicians and comes with a 2 year warranty.

Hope this info may prove useful.

Carl.

Thanks Carl was it making a lot of noise that you thought there was a fault, just wondering . At least it will have 2 years warranty now and it is not a lot cheaper to get it done elsewhere than what you paid about 800 for the recon of the unit.

When i first noticed it the car just didnt feel right as i came to a stop it was almost as though one of the tyres had squared off, or if you can imagine it was like the car bumped down into first gear. I then noticed wheel judder when i pulled out of a junction on lock. Both of these symptoms disappeared once driving at road speed.

When i collected the car the service advisor confirmed that if it had not been for the full Main Dealer history BMW would not of contributed, to which I replied if they had refused to help with this matter I would of lost all faith in BMW and ended my long standing admiration of their cars.

Anyway the car is now absolutely fine and I can now continue to dream of owning the G30 M5 ,,,,,,,,,just need them to come down in price first :D
