Detachable tow hitch problem

Post by CondorX5 » Wed Oct 23, 2019 9:22 pm

Not sure if I am missing something but I am struggling with my factory fitted detachable tow hitch locking mechanism which seems jammed - won't lock into the towbar - so I found a full e70 towbar and hitch on ebay and bought it for the hitch alone....and.....SAME PROBLEM! One of the keys is in the lock, I cannot get it to release the key. the adjustment nut moves a little either way and the bearings which lock the hitch show some movement, but the hitch will not release the key.....

Is there some special trick to get these detachable hitches to work as they should ?

Is it the same as this one, I bought the Westfalia detachable for my X3 .
Have you pulled the red handle out and twisted it to allow the ball bearins to retract the ball bearings into the shaft. Then when pushed into the socket the red handle twists and pops inwards allowing the key to be turned and removed
There's not much more you can do really, wiered if two are faulty
