strange thing ,my tailgate wont click open when the remote's button is pressed, nor does the alarm sound when the button is depressed for 3 secs or more..any ideas what the problem might be.

I seem to remmeber there is a Key coding selection to allow that (well there is on the E53)
Perhaps something has affected the coding in the module?

Have you had any work, mods, updates done??

I have part of this prob.  though I'm not sure.

Let me explain, I have the powered boot lid, hold key down and lid goes up or down.  Thus alarm does not go off as the key fob function is for boot operation.  I asked dealer about, never got a reply.

Perhaps there is no panic alarm or a different sequence of key fob buttons to press if you have automated power boot???

Would be nice to get to bottom of this one.

i've found the answer on another forum, apparently this feature is dis-abled because loads of peeps kept on locking their keys in the boot so bmw dis-abled the feature...how it works now is you open with the mian 'open' button then press the tailgate button, makes the button  a bit redundant though.. as mentioned it can be coded to open the tailgate with the other doors kept shut...

@5wany, sounds logical tbh..it wouldnt be acceptable if the alarm went off every time you used the tailgate..

tailgate with remote

Have comfort access and boot will reopen with a bleep if you close it with keys inside (unless they are deep in your golf bag!!!!)
So my key fob boot button works independently of doors and alarm - strangely because of safety (ie you open boot to put shopping in and some scrote nicks your belongings from front of car because it is unlocked)
