IMPORTANT: Server downtime, 10pm tonight - **COMPLETED**

Post by sp3ctre » Thu May 12, 2011 4:41 pm

Sorry for the short notice but the xdrivers site will be offline for a while from 10pm tonight (12th May). I am not sure how long it will be offline, depending on how the work goes, but fingers crossed it should just be an hour or so.

Server is back online... will take a while for the DNS to propagate so might be a little quiet for the next few hours :D

Seems to keep going down though? I keep getting the 'Forum is being migrated' message at various times. It's OK now, but it wasn't an hour or so ago. I've done the clear cache, clear history, reboot the systm tricks but..........

You must be hitting different DNS servers then. The DNS servers we use have the correct info but unfortunately the nature of the internet means it takes a while for all the DNS servers to catch up. Bear with it, shouldn't be too long and they'll all be on the same page.

DNS was the only thing I could think of too. It was just that sometimes it worked and then it stopped again. I hate dealng with the blasted infrastructure! Now you know why I stopped being a Project Manager a year back...... :? :(

If it's of any use, I can only reliably get connection to this site by using Google's own Public DNS servers on 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Using the normal pair that our ISP provides (below) usually brings the 'the server is being migrated, please clear your cache and refresh later' message. I just swap wireless portals here (we have repeaters to cover dead spots) and using Google gets in, the others not.

The normal pair are 158.152.1.58 and 158.152.1.43. At least I now know!!

Might be a useful tip for others.

After the quick exchange with Sp3ctre yesterday I started looking harder. For some reason if I use the DNS servers my ISP suggests then I can't get in. I don't know how often these things should refresh but 2 days seems excessive!! It's just odd that it's intermittent. Anyway, issue solved using Google and care of the pointers from Sp3ctre.

Interesting! The device I'm struggling with is my iPad. Methinks that closng safari, deleting cach, history and cookies, shutting it down and rebooting actually doesn't do what it says on the tin. Here's a Conspuracy Theory starter (joke, honest), those in Cupertino are not only tracking you via GPS and WiFi but possibly re-routing your DNS too...............

I had the migration message on Friday but all is ok now, and that was using both tapatalk and via Firefox on the PC.
