05 3.0D Sport and A Couple of Non X's

Post by Lyons » Tue Jan 10, 2017 10:49 am

I didn't realise there was a gallery section!

I wanted a 4x4 for snow purposes and general stuff shifting, I'd originally been looking at CRV's but in the back of my head I kept coming back to X5's. I'd always wanted one since they came out, so in the end I went with the heart over the head!

Given the bad reports about how problematic the E53's were I wanted to hold out for 1 with a good history. However I was pretty fussy with spec too which didn't help.

I eventually found this 1 on gumtree in Scarborough and it ticked all the boxes. The last owner had only owned it for a few months and done 200 miles, and it had 1 owner before that.

67k, full BM history- 9 stamps and 6 brake fluid services.
Xenons
Heated seats
Nav
Panoramic roof
Electric seats

I've just had it serviced and the crankcase breather changed and while t was in the mechanic gave a list of stuff that could be doing with changing. Also currently trying to get the Bluetooth working, and then need to sort the OEM parking sensors which have been replaced with aftermarket ones and are dire. Also a few dents to take out and the back bumper needs repaired.

Ive already fitted an Intravee but other than that I just want a set of 20's.

I'm enjoying it so far, it's a nice place to be and Mrs Lyons even likes it too. Touch wood I've done 3000 trouble free so far!

A couple of others of the current fleet too. TTS is my daily and the Golf R is the family wagon driven by Mrs Lyons;

Hi Lyons

I like the pictures of your fleet, very nice, and I thought I spied another white car in your garage possibly with three letters beginning with a G.. which is a very cool car, and I bet would bring a smile to your face  :))

The garage looks good size just right for some toys and hope you don't mind me saying it looks like your also busy with the work going on at your place, as well as getting a new X5 to fettle.

For me X5's are a nice car to have a run and finding a good one is getting harder, but if it has good history you can always fix a few minor niggles.

I liked my E53 as I did a lot to it over the 5 years I had it and it turned heads for an older car. The E70 i have now is also very nice and comfortable, but as I got the right spec car for me it doesn't need the same type of changes or upgrades, although saying that I haven't been on eBay for a while  :)

Thanks Graeme.

Unfortunately the GTR isn't mine! The TTS was in getting a detail and those are the only photos I have if it clean since getting it last year. There's very little point washing cars these days as they just get dirty immediately with living on a building site!

I would love to upgrade to a 7 seat E70 in the next few years, the E53 feels a little agricultural whereas the E70 is nicer to drive.

I strayed away from X ownership for a while there, with a brief spell in this;

However it wasn’t really cutting it as we took to camping this year, so last week I picked up a 2012 30D M Sport. Absolutely delighted with it, so much more refined than the E53. Fantastic spec too; comfort seats, media pack, 7 seats, rear, top view and side cameras, heated seats etc. A few like mobile apps and internet that don’t really know what they do either.

Plans are Towbar, winter wheels then 20’s too. Not a fan of the current wheels!

Looks nice and great spec too but definitely needs the wheels changing for something a little more sporty  8)

Cheers. Aye the current wheels are absolute horrendous! Hopefully get some 336’s fitted after the winter.

I bought a set of winter 211’s last night, they are due to be delivered next week.

Hi

The X5 definitely looks better with those 20" on than the originals :thumbsup:

Also I noticed the drive is now done and look very good and probably easier to keep the cars cleaner

Thanks Graeme. Yes, delighted with how it looks now.

Aye the tar is a fantastic job, such a difference having a bound surface now instead of the wee stones!
