Adaptive cruise

Post by BKRM50D » Wed Feb 28, 2018 10:05 am

Hi guys , hoping to get a 2017 X5 m50d but can’t seem to see any advertised with adaptive cruise control . I know it’s available but is it the case that most people don’t spec it on their cars ? This is what the salesman told me ....

You can spot one by looking for the centrally mounted "box" in the lower air intake, if that helps?

Try looking for Driving Assistant Plus, as its part of that package. Great option, the 2nd thing I spec, after comfort seats.

I have it on my 50d and it’s absolutely brilliant - in fact, it was number one on my list and I’m amazed more owners don’t spec it.

I have on one occasion driven from central London to near Worthing without touching the accelerator or brake pedal once!

Yes I have had it on my last two cars ( range rovers ) and would not want to be without it .

I could not order it with my M, which is disappointing.

Just remember that snow such as we now have will stop it working if it collects on the radar head.

Great system though  :)

Sorry a little off topic but I was just wondering about when someone buys these cars with all this tech in 10 years time , will they be able to cope with all the warning lights on the dash saying that several systems are malfunctioning

If it includes ‘Lane Assist’ then it might well.  My Škoda has it but if you takes your hands off the wheel you get one warning and then the brakes come on as it works like a deadman’s switch.

Just to be clear, I am neither condoning nor encouraging anyone taking their hands off the steering wheel whilst they are driving!  I tested mine just to check the tech works and was on a non-public road!

@Horizon - I know what you mean.  Modern dash panels light up like Xmas trees and give warning messages that mean sod all!  Mind you, in 10 years time I probably won’t care, won’t be allowed to drive by my other half - except possibly a Mobility Scooter, and all oil burning cars will have been burnt on huge pyres anyway  :))
