66Plate M50D pics and a few queries

Post by Fireblade1 » Fri Nov 22, 2019 5:03 pm

Hi All not been on here for a while but just bought this which is absolutely amazing, came with massive spec, HUD, SLD, HK, Surround View, Winter Pack, Driving Assistance Plus, CA and the interior design package

A few things that not so sure of though so was hoping for some advice if poss

Have noticed that when putting in gear I can feel a slight clunk in the lever, is this normal?

Regarding driving assistant plus, on the 2019 M5 when this is turned on, when on a motorway it gives you active cruise control but also steers for you as long as you jeep your hand on the wheel, on this one the active cruise is fine but it only steers for you at low speeds which is classed as traffic jam assist, is this how it should be?

Heres a few pics

That's what I have on my 2018 40d, found the auto steer a little disconcerting of the 2019 30d I borrowed, it continually tried to stop you changing lane, unless you indicated, which isn't needed on a quiet motorway at 70mph, apparently there is an option to disable the auto steer and keep the active cruise, but never found it whilst driving it so just turned it off.

Don't know about you but I found it huge compared with the f15, especially on narrow roads with high kerbs

Yep test drove a new X5M50D and it felt so much bigger...tbh much prefer looks of the F15 but then again when I had the E70 I preferred the looks of them to the F15

Nice looking car, looked at the M50D, a fantastic car, but was a bit concerned about running costs, so test drove a 40d, and discovered it had more than enough get up and go for us, although the m50 was stunning, it basically came down to an 11 month old m50 with around 10k miles or a one month old 40d with 18 miles on the clock after we put ten miles on it during the test drive, so we decided on the 40d.

Enjoy the 50d

Can't blame your logic there mate, as you say the 4.0 has plenty of get up and go, would have been happy with either tbh, the clincher for me was the driving assistance plus package this one has which after looking at countless cars seems pretty rare

That was the key option requirement for me as well, together with the pan roof.

Would be interested in your average mpg once you have had it a few months, mines is averaging 33 miles per gallon, and that includes around 2000 miles towing a caravan (using the fuelio app) over its first 10500 miles.

I set the trip computer to auto so see each journey, got 33 from collecting it at Oxford back to Derbyshire and seeing about 28 on my 20 journey to work, used to have an M4 where I saw 25 average and the M5 sees about 20 so well happy tbh, they reckon the fuel station is your best friend in the X5M so more than happy with this given the performance you get as well

I got 35mpg on a long journey driving mine carefully, average about 31mpg on everyday runs and get 24mpg towing a 2000kg van :D (65 plate X6 M50d)

Thanks for the info, about what I thought or a bit better than I expected, thought it would be mid to high 20's average, given the performance, although a lot will be down to driving style and travel routes etc.

But your right with you become good friend of the fuel companies!

Tend to use Costco premium Diesel in mine whenever I pass their fuel stations, as it tends to give a better consumption than standard diesel from the likes of shell, esso etc and is a few pence a litre cheaper.

Not noticed anything, but will have a listen next time I drive it, although mine is a 40d with only 10,500 miles on the clock.

Will let you know

Nice motor and a nice spec... I possibly should have considered a 50d but I wasn't doing that many miles so just went for an X5M after the M5.

Now my little lad has started school, my wife is doing around 80 miles a day and we are in the fuel station every 3-4 days! Despite that cost (and the depreciation) its an utter pleasure to drive!

We are looking at many different options for next year - Move closer (keep X5M)... or get an EV like the i3 for the school run and I get an F90 M5 or M8... or get an M50d for school run, and I get a another F10 M5...

First world problems!
