Corroded 20" alloy wheels

Post by Motor-mender » Tue Feb 23, 2016 7:10 pm

Hi all
I noticed over the weekend all of my wheels have started to corrode from around the centre cap & don't look very nice. Not what I would expect for such an expensive car. I called BMW service dept yesterday & sent them some photos. Was very happy today to hear they agree and have ordered me 4 new wheels for fitment next week. Having looked on various forums it seems I'm not alone. Poor really but a good result as all my wheels have slight kerb rash from previous owner. I will have to be really careful when I get the new ones on.  Image

The same with my 20" Diamond cut alloys.  The dealership authorised 3 replacements last November and having them replaced when changing from winters back to them.  They know there are issues and its probably using high pressure hoses when cleaning the wheels which may well be causing this?  After the warranty period, I'll be hand washing them!! ::)

i doubt pressure washing is the cause as mine was always hand washed, its probably more to do with the metal centre cap reacting with the alloy wheel but this is just a hunch

I had all 4 changed under warranty last summer. It took little time to get it authorized so it's probably a known issue. I also had some dis colouration of the thigh support panel on the drivers seat which was also approved but it's come back again!

I have the cream leather and it has a few orange specs in the middle of the panel. Quite odd.
