Aftermarket Sat Nav for a 2011 X3

Post by Tdarcy » Sun Sep 23, 2018 12:47 am

Hi guys,

I have the Nav button on my iDrive already, but don’t have the software/GPS. I’ve been looking at retrofits...What do you guys think is my best option? New to this, so please excuse the lack of knowledge.

Thanks,

T

:hi:

If you want to stick with OEM, there may be an official retrofit depending upon what other options you already have in the car.  A BMW Dealer will be able to advise you on that.  It won’t be cheap!

Alternatively you could buy a portable Garmin (other brands are available) type unit which will be far cheaper and may update for free too, it just isn’t quite OEM - although BMW do a retrofit which uses them.

I have the OEM systems in all mine but each update costs as much as a half decent portable unit, and has real time traffic for free as well.  RTTI is chargeable from BMW, as are the map updates back then.

I would use the BMW Vin decoder first to check if the cars build spec, you put the last 7 digits of your vin in, and it will tell you if the car was originally built with satnav
If it's got satnav as an option on the IDrive it may be faulty if fitted.?
I'm not familiar with the CIC idrive as I only had CCC which was an earlier version.
But as X5 sport has mentioned an OEM retrofit will be very expensive

You need any built in ad blockers disabled, or add it to a white list, for it to work properly.
