starting problems when car left overnight

Post by mckian » Tue Jan 08, 2019 10:38 am

I have a 2007 x3 2.0d. When the car is left overnight it will not start first time but will die immediately after it turns over. If I turn the key to off then turn back on it will start and run . it will start first time all day but the next day it is back to stalling again.

it also judders when accelerating but is perfect at cruising speed.

I have had an injector changed and the fuel filter changed without curing this problem.

any ideas?

Have your battery checked it sounds to me like it's about to turn up its toes

Does sound like a battery problem as said, did they program the new injector as if not that will cause uneven running (judder)

Fuel pressure a bit low would be worthy of a check too. It could be ‘running back’ into the tank too and only if left long enough hadn’t got enough to start/sustain until the pressure builds up. There may be a non-return valve which isn’t working?

Any idea of where the non return valve would be? Do you think this could also affect the acceleration?

It could be low pressure from the pump, that might affect acceleration due to fuel starvation.

Have you had any error code diagnostics done? It might save guesswork and money by pointing you in the right direction. It could be a leaking injector as well - as in another one on the way out?

my code reader is not bringing anything up this was also confirmed by my mechanic.

i have a suspicion it is the fuel pump , i have a local specialist in the area so the wallet needs to come out again i think.

so i took out fuse 26 and the stuttering on acceleration went away. i think the clutches in the transfer box are snatching. there are no lights on the dash so does anyone know whether an oil change may help to sort this issue.?
