X3 fault codes 55C4 and 6E3C

Post by nominal » Tue Aug 07, 2018 1:27 am

Hi all,

I have a recently purchased 07 X3 E83 3.0si auto with 77,000 kilometres on the clock.

Had it for two weeks with no issues then started getting intermittent 4X4 and brake warning lights (no ABS warning light). The warnings have become more persistent and now come on about 90 percent of the time.

Bought a Foxwell NT510 Pro scanner with the BMW software and scanned the car.

Got VTG code 55C4 "no message from DSC" and ABS/DSC code 6E3C "DSC interface engine".

No error codes for wheel speed sensors, steering angle sensor, yaw angle sensor.

The car has four brand new, star marked, Pirelli Scorpion STR 235/55 tyres on standard 17 inch alloys.

Battery is newish and fully charged.

Have scoured the net and found not a single instance of anyone getting error code 6E3C.

Any help with a diagnosis much appreciated.

Did a quick google and this was the first in the list.
Have a look at it they had the same 2 codes.

Thanks for that.

It helped lead me down the path of the SAS. I read further that the SAS should be calibrated after a wheel alignment.

The car had a wheel alignment when I got the new tyres and I doubt whether the tyre dealer did a SAS calibration.

Anyway, on my Foxwell NT510 Pro I did a wheel slippage system calibration followed by a SAS calibration.

The slippage system calibrated but the SAS failed to calibrate. Started thinking it may be faulty.

Got the 4X4 and brake light yellows twice more after doing the calibrations and then they disappeared and have not come on for the last half a dozen drives of the car whereas before they were coming on most of the time.

A real head scratcher. Will wait and see whether they stay off before I pronounce a cure.

Thanks again for your input.
