Any help on removing the lower dash?

Post by Rocky-S » Wed Sep 02, 2020 5:43 pm

As it looks like there’s no Haynes manual for the X3 I’m hoping someone could tell me how I remove this? The *** lighter doesn’t work so I’m thinking of fitting a USB socket in place of it,can’t see any visible fasteners so does it clip out?

See if the copy of the BMW service manual (as used by Dealers) can help. You’ll find it at newtis.info.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Generally ime, cigarette lighter sockets are a one way push fit from the front. They usually have two spring clips that lock it into place. What this means is access to remove them is from the rear.

You will need to remove trim, how much will depend on BMWs approach on the original design criteria.

The suggestion above is undoubtedly the best way forward

The gear shifter and leather gator can be unclipped/pulled up to remove them. The black plastic surround needs to also be unclipped from the wooden surround. Once there you will see a screw and clip to help hold it in place.
You also need to pull away the climate control panel to be able to undo the 2 screws at the top of the wooden surround.

Should then come out.
