Steel underengine splash guard

Evening all.

Need some help please

Trying to change front diff oil, ( see seperate  post) cannot fathom how to get to the nuts on the reverse of the splash  guard. How the hell do you get to them to drop the guard?

Tried this morning can only guess you need to remove the underwing plastic guards - really? Must be another way?

Can anyone assist?

Really want to sort the oil change,

I know there are 6 bolts and nuts need locking with a spanner from above but how?

Really appreciate any advice

For five of the reinforcement plate (its not a splash shield) bolts/nuts, you'll need to remove the small plastic splash shields behind each front wheel, at the bottom of each wheel arch.

The sixth bot/nut is accessed via the front access port in the reinforcement plate - not the oil drain access but the other port.

A ring spanner works to hold the nuts. The bolts are to be tightened to 56Nm then another 90Deg. (new bolts - but most folk re-use them).

(BTW - this plate is usually aluminium - but steels versions do exist).

I thought you must need to remove the lower splash shields under the arch it had to be the only way I could see.

What a PIA! >:(

I note 4 of them seem to hold the ARB on - any issues with getting this back on once you drop the shield? Or am I wrong?

No problem putting them back in.

Yep - no issue getting the ASB/ARB brackets lined up - just leave everything loose until all the bolts are lined up and have each nut on a couple of turns, then go back around and tighten everything up.

If you are replacing the reinforcement plate bolts, the advice is that you should here are the part numbers:

Reinforcement plate bolts 56nm 41ftlb + 90 Degrees

Bolts x6 31101096987
Nuts x6 33306760587

Cheers i was using the Pelican as a guide on Saturday - thats when it stumped me as no mention of stripping of the inner wing lower steering splash guards !!!!!!!

What a faff with these in the way. I thought they would need to come ff but rather than bust something elected to wait and get some sage advice from the forum ( years of experience cocking up - i must be getting wiser in my old age)

Cheers for the tip on the bolts - assume they are stretch bolts then like a some head gasket ones, at a torque of 56nm plus quarter turn i will see what i think when i strip em out.

I reused mine didn't know any different but will check them out on Wednesday when it is on the ramp for mot.

I reused mine and secured the nuts with loctite threadloc.
If you want to use new bolts, they are on ebay :item 153203079456. much cheaper than BMW,but same spec.

Threadloc Blue is the one that you need.

I know this subject has been done to death, I’ve reused mine a few times, in fact just removed it yesterday, all were tight as a ducks thingie. I do use the blue threadloc as suggested by X5Sport
