E53 4.4 2005 ALTENATOR

Post by X5Andym » Sat Mar 16, 2019 4:34 pm

HI all

Help please, my E53 4.4 PETROL year 2005 (38.000 only on the clock) is eating batteries for some reason :( had two in about a year, battery fitted is a Yuasa silver HSB019 5000,not sure now if this the right one for the car, I keep getting trans fail safe issue coming up.. and now will not start all light up on the dash bells going off, had a issue with miss firing and stalling when I stop in traffic.. Think I may need a new alternator.. any one had the same issues, advise would be great, and which alternator should I get..

Thank you very much for any help.. love my V8.. just need to be happy driving and not worry about it failing on me.. :-(

Cheers

Andy

You need to go into the hidden menus on the instrument cluster and check item 7 which is battery voltage this will show you what it is and when engine is running how much the alternator is putting out. This will confirm one way or the other if battery or alternator is faulty.

Or, if you have a multi meter you can check voltage at jump start connections under bonnet. Make sure all the battery connections are tight, including the jump start points under the bonnet. I assume your alternator belt is tight as you haven’t complained about heavy steering. All your symptoms point to battery problem . Amazing low mileage for a 05 vehicle

Thank for the advise, thinking about it the steering is a bit heavily, at low speed,, so you may be right, need to check that the belt is at the right tension, hopefully this will solve my issue with the battery, as its not six months old..

Cheers
