Logbook received today. Online tax £555... should have gone for an 55 plate
Logbook received today. Online tax £555... should have gone for an 55 plate
Anyone else paying the higher tax bracket?
I believe I am right in saying if I would have gone for a 55 plate it would have been a lot lower than my 06.
Mine is £555 year or £305 six months.

All to do with emissions ....thats what my 2007 630i costs too
Re: Logbook received today. Online tax £555... should have gone for an 55 plate
Perverse isn't it a car registered in the month after the 55 plate cut off with identical emissions costs almost twice as much in road tax.

Shocking that for an old car and something you have to be careful of for the E70 too a 2007/2008 is £555 whereas a 2009 like mine is £325

Hi Grant, the 40d is a 3 litre diesel but with twin turbo.
Standard HP is 302 but I have just had it remapped to 358 on a rolling road and the torque has gone from 458 lb/ft to 521 lb/ft

Welcome to BMWs inconsistent numbering scheme!X5-D-Sport Salisbury wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 3:01 pm Hi Neil, I presume the 40 D is 4 litre diesel ?
The 35d is a twin turbo with similar turbos
The 40d is a twin turbo with dissimilar turbos - one large, one small
The 50d is a triple turbo
They are all 3-litre IL6 engines.

i like the sound of these, may be time to upgrade this summer for the additional power.
Any of these a preference for reliability or repairability ?

Re: Logbook received today. Online tax £555... should have gone for an 55 plate
They’re all good. The 40d replaced the 35d so is a tax band lower and slightly more efficient. Reliability is the same across all and good.
You will have a DPF on the 40/50d. Both also have 8-speed autos whereas the 35d is a 6sp. 40/50d also get a better iDrive (CIC rather than CCC) although the late pre-LCI (late 2009/early 2010) models may have one. The LCI models also all have LED angel eyes.
Personally I found the 50d a little too thuggish acceleration wise, though others love it. To me the 40d offers the best mix of power, acceleration and comfort and it’s no slouch off the line either! I get about 35mpg driving at the speed limit on motorways with around town being in the 27-29 range. My X6 is almost 10 years old and the largest expense other than tyres and a new battery so far has been new glowplugs and their controller.
It’s been recalled for a replacement propshaft and the heater wiring. Rear windscreen replaced under warranty when the heater de-laminated in the first year I had it.
They are all sensitive to tyre choice and ignoring the advice to use the right rubber can and has resulted in shattered diffs. A set of 20” RFT Contis cost me just over £800 before Xmas. Other than that in my case has been far better than the E53 it replaced.
