Hi
Anyone familiar with headrest monitor set-up?
Had the E53 since last February and never been in the back but just recently tried to mess around with the rear monitors!
The car has Digital TV in the factory dash unit which I hardly ever use but it does also stream the TV to the rear headrest monitors. I've just ordered an aftermarket Android upgrade to be fitted later. I'm not interested in the TV but it would be nice to be able to stream DVD films or YouTube videos to the rear monitors to keep the granddaughter happy!
The current setup seems to involve a Video Interface box under each front seat with 9-pin S-Video out to each monitor. Theres also an RCA AV1 in and a RCA AV2 in. I haven't pulled all the carpets up to trace the wiring but I'm assuming AV1 input carries the TV but I dont know if thats from the head unit or the TV box which I assume is somewher in the boot. I'm also guessing that AV2 into the interface box comes from the AV in, 3.5mm jack socket in the rear centre console.
Can I assume that I can run an RCA from the new head unit AV out to AV1 or AV2 under the front seat and daisy chain to the second Interface box? I don't know if the monitors or 9 pin S-Video connections carry audio.
There's a 3.5mm jack socket in the monitors but this could be Video in or headphone out!
I attach some pics of the set up.
Any advice gratefully appreciated

So the monitors will have both video/audio being carried to them from the interface boxes and the 3.5mm jack will be for wired headphones. Looking at the pics you only may have video currently running to them as you’d usually need the audio rca too.
In theory yes you should be able to just run the new cables from the android screen to the interface boxes using a Y splitter to go to both screens.
