V8 glug glug glug ...

Post by BUTLER » Sat Jul 31, 2010 4:23 pm

I've just bought a 2002 BMW X5 4.6is Auto after owning an M3 and got to say i love it.

Had a couple of problems with it though which have no been resolved.

Now just wondering is there any minor engine mods i can carry out to bring out the bubbling V8? It's sounds lovely but i want it louder & more aggressive.

Anyone with any ideas?

Cheers.

Resonator delete. Cut out the front silencers and fit an X pipe. :fuelfire:

That looks pretty good! Shame it has the double tail pipes! I specificly looks for an X5 with the rectangular tail pipes.

Maybe i'll email them and see if they can produce them! I very much doubt it though!!

Yes, a previous forum member called alfamale will probably be joining soon and he had just done one on his V8.

Great. I'll keep my eyes out for him! Cheers!

Also is it worth buying a k&n panel filter? I've always found mixed reviews about filters for cars. Any worth while difference??

I have a B&W motorsport filter in the M, introduces more inlet noise but doubt there is any real difference in performance.

Looked into it ... to buy it, get it shipped and then fitted is over £2000! Don't think i can justify spending that sort of money on a car that'l be worth less than £10000 next year!

So, where cani get some info about one of these X pipes?

Still not made my mind up on the X pipe mod, from cold it sounds too raspy almost like she's blowing. When warm it sounds good, nice volume level but still not OTT, however the rasp is always present. If you like the sound of the M3 compared to the standard straight 6 noise then this is the mod for you.
