Buying an E53 3.0D...
Re: Buying an E53 3.0D...
Lol not rambling just helping.
Over the past 6 weeks or so i've read a lot of adverts from all over the place and the advert is written in a standard text format, meaning when they put the advert in, AutoTrader has a standard text put in straight away and the seller appears not to go over the text to correct it.
I would love to have comms and sunroof, etc but although it would make it easier to sell on, i don't NEED these items and the price does help me a bit atm. I certainly don't intend retro fitting the screen, but will look at something like a Dice Electronics kit for fitting an I-Phone.
At the end of the day, we started looking at the older E53, so i'm just making sure i get a facelift Sport and not going to get too concerned about kit...just gotta be a genuine one.

Re: Buying an E53 3.0D...
Against what some people may say, but not in disrespect, i got a facelift X5 without comms.
We do around 8k miles a year and the stuff i was looking at ment it would be around 90-100k in 2 years time, so taking the comms pack out the equation, it ment we could go for a lower mileage car....probably a safer bet reliability wise, over time.
Anyway, it's a 2004 3.0d with 69k on it and FSH, sat-nav, PS2 TV's in the rear and all the usual bits.

Re: Buying an E53 3.0D...
Congrats tou you drb5,
That car is looking totally unmolested & absolutely superb.
I found your last post found your post a bit confusing as opening line states you bought a comms pack car, (which pics show you have) , yet 2nd paragraph intimates you took comms pack out of equation to buy a non comms car with lower miles.
Perhaps I am being thick or have missedsed something in translation.
IMO you've done the right thing in going for a comms pack car- assuming you sourced it for the right price, (I don't expect you to share the numbers on here btw).

Beautiful looking car. Looks like it's been very well looked after.
Like the titanium grill on black. Looks very smart.
Just need to get the HIDs done and you'll be all set!
Cheers
Tony

Re: Buying an E53 3.0D...
Many thanks Sanj! Don't mind at all, but maybe you can explain how you done it?
Cheers Tony. It's had a fair bit spent on it through it's life, going by the servicing through JCT600. I like my car's original and this one appears to be just that.

Hi Tony,
Use Photobucket in future - link here shows it is easier...
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=96&p=870&hilit=photobucket#p870
As for what I did with Flickr...
Navigate to the picture you want to share, click 'Share this', select the 'BBCode' button and then copy the highlighted text only into your post.
Oh and delete your links only from your post... Edit, etc...

Oops, ment to say WITHOUT comms.
Very many thanks for all your help, VERY worthwhile. I'm sure my questions will continue, far beyond buying the car.
Sounds good Sanj, thanks for that. Lol at using Photobucket from now on.

drb5, congrats on the purchase of the 'X' it looks in very nice order and to be honest it's not an issue not having the full 'Comms' pack as you have Sat Nav IMO the most important thing out of the pack other parts being bluetooth and 6 disc CD changer, I would also suggest that the pricing of a car with nav at this age would not be affected in the way an 'X' without nav would be. It also looks like you have sun protection glass in the rear also a very nice option and having the running boards makes for a very nice vehicle indeed .
To add: The 'Comms pack' also came with TV function, on this age of car it would have an anolog receiver which as we all know will be of no us in a few years time if not sooner and the TV reception is $hite at the best of times so no loss not having it. The other part was the enhanced OBC (On Board Computer) again no loss as you have a scaled down version via the BC button on the indicator stalk

Re: Buying an E53 3.0D...
Thanks guys.
No other mods i think, other than a Nokia bluetooth integrated thing. You get a loud bleep off it when you fire the engine up.
It has a 6 CD chager in where the nav-DVD unit is? I figured that was a standard item for this year of car? Tested the PS2 this morning with a copy of Madagascar 2. Plays well actually, but i thought the sound might have came through the car....i presume it's a wireless headset idea though.

Re: Buying an E53 3.0D...
Very nice I wish you years of happy and safe motoring with your X
The headrest screens are aftermarket as BMW didn't do OEM ones, so you will need to work out how the sound was connected - may be wireless or you may need to switch to AV - usually via the front monitor, but I was a bit confused as you said you had no Comms pack but had the satnav? Do you not have the TV and telephone function, just the satnav? If you do have the front screen and the TV option, you will be able to select AV on the TV function - the kit may be connected this way. Otherwise, attend a meet or take some photos and I'm sure Sanj and the other guys who know about these things will be along soon to help you!!
