4.8is cluster

Post by Olliefrom83 » Sun Jul 12, 2015 8:51 pm

Hi

Bit of a random question, but I have been offered the dial cluster from a 4.8is with the grey dials, is it possible to fit this into my 2005 3.0d? Or is it more hassle than it's worth programming etc?

Cheers

Ollie

You May have a potential bad time in getting it to accept it..

If I recollect correctly the VIN & mileage are stores in several places within the car.
If any of these are incorrect / mismatch you will get the lovely red tamper dot on the dash.

I think the process is to erase the memory from the dash module, connect then rebuild the vehicle order on the car.
However if you have had anything changed from factory then this may cause you further unrelated issues..

I seem to remember another forum (think it was for the 5series) where someone spent a rather long time trying to get another dash to work correctly....

google may be your friend, or eventual enemy on this.

the obvious small print bit....
the above is from research and may or may not be totally correct.
I havent tried this, or witnessed it and cannot be held responsible if you brick your dash by trying it......
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Given the dash works in a different way and has extra warning lights as well as a different rev range and possibly speedo marking positions, it might not be as straightforward as you might think.....as well as the 'challenges' mentioned above.

You could always rip them apart and swap over the bits you want....
But getting the pointers of the dials is a nightmare and one easy way to screwe up the dash permanently!!!

That was going to be my plan, may send them off to have all the bits swapped over but retain all the guys off the 3.0d cluster
See what some companies say
