Post by jaynana » Thu Dec 21, 2017 9:15 am

my heart is having the better of me these days, must be  the festive spirit

thinking of a 'selfish car' - a hair dresser  :P

tested both, my brain says SLK but my heart says Z4

openions maybe?

also can anybody recommend a good Z4 forum?

Hi I bought a 3.0 E89 4 months ago it is a great car but not a sports car, everyone recommends a Porsche Boxster but they just seem high maintenance and delicate.
The E89 is well built, engine is a peach, noise intoxicating, but once the roof is down it becomes even better, it gets lots of looks as they are quite rare. The Z4 forum on here is great at the bottom of the forum page.
Unfortunately I gave mine back to South Lakes BMW due to problems with the diff and service history that hadn't been done. Good luck with your search newer model 2.0l have turbos, aswell as 2.8 but the 35is is the range topper.

We have a 2010 2.5L Z4 and have had it for 4.5 years. Its great.
I think it will all depend on what year/model/engine in each car you are looking at but I prefer the Z over the SLK.
As said above the Z4 forum that has a link at the bottom of the forum here will give you more than enough info on the Z4.

I've never been in a Z4, but my wife has an SLK 350.  Absolutely fantastic car. Loads of fun, power and reliability.

did you mean SL350? that's a different beast entirely.. it is extremely powerful alright.

if you meant the SLK, well the obvious that I tried to ignore has come to bite - as much as its nice it is also a bit of a hairdressers car..

now looking for a SL350 or perhaps a 640i.

problem with the older SL350 is I don't like the old merc shapes nor the interior, love the post 2012 shape but that's pricey. 640i..? hmm..  8)

its also hard to get the spec I want - petrol, beige or brown interior, dark colour or white exterior.. list goes on, YET, under £20k  :'(

I really would try a Boxster for that sort of money 20k you can get a  gen 2 Cayman / Boxster . I have just bought a 2008 2.7 gen 1 Boxster , picking up on Saturday hopefully all down to the weather . They are in a different league to the others !

No, I meant an SLK.  It's not the current model. It's an R171, the one with the 'F1 inspired nose'.

Yes,mit could be seen as a hairdressers car, but who cares?

Anyway, you asked for an SLK initially!

Another vote for a Boxster. I bought mine last September on a whim but it really is a great drivers car.
Mine is a 2.7 manual but plenty of fun.

The boxter is in my radar too[emoji106]

Still a hairdresser's but I guess the best amongst them.

Again I like the 982 of it mostly inside.. outside too.

Choices

I have had 3.0 Z4 as a dry weather toy for 5 years now, every time i jump in and drive it i forget just how much fun it is to drive (although the M sport suspension is a bit jiggly on poor roads)

When i bought it I checked out the Boxster S the drive was great but the maintenance costs and known engine issues put me off. I also tried the SLK350 and although the speedo said you were moving quickly it just didn't excite me and felt a bit soft. Recently though i took out a SLK55 and that was a totally different beast and is certainly in the running should i decide to swap the Z4
