changing from e53 to F15 buying advice

Post by shaz » Mon Apr 01, 2019 2:09 pm

Hi all,

A devoted x5 owner, still have a 2005 e 53 which runs superb.

I am searching for used x5 f15, 3 or 4D around 2015+ and have a cash budget of max £30,000. I am double minded as to which to go for a newer model with around 50000+ miles or a older one with low milage. I don't do much miles as i spend a lot of time abroad. also should i buy used approved from BMW, other traders or will private do, considering that the f15 has good reliability.

I have read good reviews from here and else where as regards to reliability of the F15. At what milage do the discs and pads need changing? Any suggestions on what to look out for and buying advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi all

Quite a few views and NIL replies!! Anyway thjought id update the thread.

Firstly not sure why it says newbie as ive been a member here since 2010.

After much research and window shopping, as i couldnt find the right spec. To be honest I was quite surprised with the number of X5's on sale which have hardly any options, even BMW used approved, from whom i finally did find the 'right one'. Or at least I hope so.

She's a 2016 4.0D in carbon black with ivory white/ black interior. She has the following options:

Piano black-BMW Ind
20' 469's with new run flats all around
reversing camera
comfort seats
comfort access
soft close doors
third row seating
sunroof
sun protection glass
folding mirrors
adaptive headlights
high beam assist
driving assistant plus
adaptive headlights
surround view
head up display
4 zone aircon
harmon kardon
cold weather package
speed limit display
internet

Just picked her up yesterday.

Just two words LOVING IT!! :D

Very nice......but.....

:worthless: :D

......and with (currently) less than 20 posts you count as a newbie, it’s the number of posts that move you off Newbie to Member.

I don’t know how many on here made that jump. Most have gone E53 to E70 then F15.

Hi

Congrats on your new X5 and yes that is a very nice spec and also 4 zone aircon is quite rare as not many have that spec'd, and look forward to pics

I recently picked up a F15 after selling my E53 (which incidently was a great car and still in the family). In the process of making some changes to the interior and Head unit upgrade.
Well impressed with the fuel economy and the drive as my commute is about 400 miles one way.
Cant understand why i didnt switch earlier from Audi. :driving:
Enjoy.

I made the switch from an E53 to the F15 (F85). The E53 was a great car, and didn't feel like I was gaining anything by swapping to the E70... I kind of did the same with the 5-Series and went from E39 to F10 and skipped the E60.

I'm really pleased with the F85 - great spec, performs well, and is incredibly comfortable.

I always look out for the ones with the options when buying and I noticed the same as Shaz - a lot out there with basic spec. Looks like you found a good one anyway Shaz.
