2008 4.8I se Digital Tv Tuner?

Post by gatster » Sat Feb 01, 2020 10:49 am

I've found my perfect spec 4.8I e70, hopefully picking it up in the next couple of weeks but I'm trying to figure out if it has a digital tv tuner (it has literally everything else).

On realoem, what should I be looking for when I put the vin digits in?

You need to put the last 7 of your VIN into a VIN decoder to find the build spec. Realoem will pull up the right model but not the ‘as built’ spec which is what you need.

Try this one....

There are other websites that may need the full 17-digit code rather than just the last 7.

Cheers I did that last night and it told me the below:

S601 TV Function

No idea if that is digital or not though, googling that doesn't really reveal anything.

BMW started fitting hybrid tuners in 2004 so you should have no issues with receiving DVB(T) signals.

Thanks for that, just need to figure out how to work it then when I get it. When i looked at it yesterday it was just a fuzzy screen on 'TV's and I couldn't see a way to 'tune' to as such!

It’s done from within the iDrive menus. On my 2011 version it’s done via....

Station search
Station search takes up to 3 minutes depend- ent upon the number of channels available. If not all available channels appear in the list, the TV standard might need to be adjusted, see page 214.
1. "CD/Multimedia"
2. "TV"
3. Call up "Options".
4. "Station search"

In the UK there are no longer any broadcasts above Channel,60 as those are now used by 4G phones. The TV module will still scan up to Ch 68 though.

Apologies in advance for this question, but how the hell do you select 'options'? New to idrive so I have no clue, there's just the rotary controller and a menu button.

,Yours being a 2008 has the CCC , IDrive fitted, CIC was from 2010
Google CCC IDrive instruction ( YouTube maybe ) there's loads of info
CCC co trollers doesn't have the option buttons on the controller but you have to go through menus on the screen one by one, CIC is more direct
Seems very dated by today's tech, but was first introduced in 2003 in the E60 5 series

What are you trying to access, you mentioned TV, which was a cost option
It will be in the entertainment section, then where it says AM. FM USB . AUX. Keep scrolling right until you get to TV.

BMW do now offer their Owners Manuals as a download within an App. It’s called Drivers Guide so may be worth checking out. All you need is the last 7 of the VIN. It’s free :D

What about with the full VIN? Just retried the app and it’s the full VIN needed - my mistake. It’s got all of ours right back to 2004!

I can only get the PDF versions, and for our 2018 2-series it now comes back with ‘No Information’ even though I do have it already so I know it’s an error. The App was updated recently and seems to be very buggy!

Yeah full VIN throws the 'no information' error.

It's definitely got the tv as it's the last option in the entertainment section, but it's just the snow screen. It's not a deal breaker but everything else works so it would be a shame if this didn't.
