EDIT

Ignore all of this, centre bore size is wrong of course  only 72.6 on the E53. 74.1 all round on an E70 and front of E71 :x
Was about to post up to this when I saw this. That's the main issue for you that the centre bores are different unless you carry a spigot ring too just for that occasion if it needs to go on the rear.

Its worse as the 4.8 alloy spare you have has a 72.6 CB meaning it doesn't fit the E70 at all and only the rear of an E71. :headbang:

Yes E53 spare is a no go at all really. Ideally an E70 equivalent with a spigot for the rear when required.

Sadly, E70/71 owners only have a humble, heavy steel space saver option

Could have the E53s alloy CB enlarged but the offset still isnt ideal and Its all effort for something you hope never too need.

When you have lifted a rear 21" wheel with a 325 tyre on , all 40kg of it ! and it filled the whole boot you know what heavy is lol  space savers then look like pram wheels :D My space saver steely is on its way now so will have to sort a tyre soon enough .

Yup agreed the space saver and tyre are a fair bit lighter than the standard size alloy and tyre so definitely not an issue.

Plenty of companies will bore the centre too for not much money but more of an issue with the spigot fitment perhaps.

Modding the E53 alloy is tempting as i have one. It would have to be bored to 74.1 for use on the front axle and perversely a spigot fitted to reduce it again to use on the rear. Strictly speaking a spacer and longer bolts required too :(

All too much hassle for something i would hope never to need. Ths steel wheel is obviously 74.1 and i have a suitable spigot for use on the rear. That will do 8)

I suppose the thinking with runflats is an owner wouldn't do that. You would drive carefully to the nearest facility for repair or replacement. Maybe an option 9 to 5 five or even six days a week but not on a Sunday evening for example.

Lifting these things does require effort, even the strapping techies at my dealership rely on the hoists in the workshop. Can't say i blame them!

Agree much easier to use the steel one.

I have a stud that screws in the hub to a bolt hole to set the wheel on when fitting , makes things possible at least :D The mechanic I use says its a great help . The pramwheel arrived today and a long time since 5 inch wide wheels were of any interest lol and a google online shows places selling space savers are fitting 155.85.18 tyres for x5's mainly as they are 30 quid cheaper so I ordered of camskill £54 plus post for a contenental :D Bought the little wingnut /stud to to hold it in of bmw :driving: Lets hope its never needed ! :D

Nice. I’ve got one of those studs too but tbh I’ve never used it as ended up going with a full stud conversions on all the cars lol. Why have one stud to align the wheel when you can have all 5

Go big or go home I say
