Rear Entertainment Screen - Replacement

Probably unlikely that anyone else has suffered this pain here, but thought I'd post and see anyway:

One of my beautiful sons (neither will admit) has managed to break the bracket for the Rear Entertainment Screen on the Passenger side of my F85. The hinge assembly appears to have cracked and broken and now it is hanging rather sadly!

I have had a quote from Main Dealer on replacement - a cool £2,800 for the single unit to be replaced. I really think that is insane, but want to see what choices I have, so...

1. Assuming I can buy a replacement OEM Screen from eBay, is this a straight plug and play or does it require coding by Main Dealer?
2. Is this something only a mental person would attempt to fix themselves?
3. Does anyone have an idiots guide on how to remove the rear seat covers, and the screens?

These help at all? Doesn’t say anything about taking the seat to bits, however it depends upon which part is busted. Make sure you have an anti-static wrist strap bonded to the car though.

Absolutely brilliant - that really helps, thank you.

I'll see if I can remove the screen first, and then I'll confirm hinge damage. If I can replace hinges and that solves it, I'll be a very happy man. I'm not back in the UK until the end of the month so won't be able to do it until then but will look forward to giving it a shot.

Will look into a suitable torque drive, unless you have any recommendations on that too?

Those torque settings are pretty much hand tightness. There are 1-10Nm drivers available, but they’re expensive, and most look like normal screwdrivers with a gauge on the handle.

As long as you don’t ‘Go Gorilla’ on them you’ll be fine and I’ll bet BMW Techs will just use a screwdriver.
