Head unit

Post by Themoog2 » Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:35 am

I've got the small screen head unit in my X5 and in a slightly inebriated fashion I ended up making some daft ebay purchases - one of which was the wide-screen version of the head unit..
Anyway, I attempted to install it the other day and although it works OK it just doesn't quite fit in the arpeture in the dash.
The location screws are in a different place but my dash has square tabs in the bottom corners that would require cutting off which I'm reluctant to do. Also the head unit outer trim is needed.
Should I bother?

Have a look at this …. It’s from Xoutpost in the US and is for converting a Mk3 Nav to a Mk4 Nav.

There was a kit offered with brackets, but those have been discontinued. The part numbers are on the link, so you may be able to find some on line perhaps. If not then cable ties are suggested.

Ah interesting. Looks easy enough. The cheapest surround trim I can find though is nearly £40 - that’s twice as much as I paid for the head unit..

If you can, see if you can source a Mk4 Satnav DVD drive as well. That lets you use DVD maps rather than CD maps.
