looking at the bottle there is an overflow pipe on the top, if the pump can be taken off then a pipe could be pushed onto this then flushed out its worth a try. I have ordered a new pump just in case

I've always found back flushing (from the jets) to be the better way, other wise you are just pushing the crap into the jets/pipe.

You could try blowing air in at the nozzle end - but not at silly pressures as you can cause joints for the rear jet to split apart under the carpet.  If you can get the jets out and get the pipes off that also gets around any that have non return valves.

looks like I am going to have to get the washer bottle out as either the washer pump is duff or blocked, either way its got to come off to clean it out and replace the pump

If your pump has gone it won't make a noise. You won't have have to listen carefully, it's quite a loud unit.

Very common if you use certain screenwash concentrates.  It's bacterial growth.  After it happened to me a couple of times I now only use BMW screenwash and have never had it again.  Not sure what the differences are but I believe the ones with alcohol (methanol?) in them as well as detergent inhibit this gunk from growing.

I buy concentrate in 5- or 10-litre containers direct from the dealer and use it in all our cars.

All working fine now the fiddly plastic rivets arrived today to finish the job off

Question - How you get the old rivets out and do you need a rivet gun to put the new ones in?

Use a punch/nail the same size as the pin and knock it in, it will fall out into the wheel arch, then pull out the rivet. The plastic rivets were bigger than normal rivets so I took off the bit that screws into the rivet gun and used it without any thing on

Think this will suffice?  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plastic-Rivet- ... B0080R2TM2

I don't own a rivet gun so would have to buy one. Looks like this comes with an assortment of different plastic rivets. Also note most of the the reviews suggest they used it for car parts, one an X5.

I finally got round to doing this today.
What an epic job it is!
Just getting the arch liners off was a challenge let alone getting the washer bottle out.
I thought I'd got over the biggest hurdle by then but it turned out that putting it all back is even harder!

Seriously couldn't get the liners back in how they should be so haven't been able to put new rivets in at all. My hands are cut to shit and I'm exhausted  :))

Anyway, my 2 lower filters before

And one after a clean up

Went and bought 4 x 1 litre bottles of screen wash from the stealer just now lol.
£4.50 a litre  :'(
