Right. I've seen one near me that fits the bill nicely.
I've spoken to the guy and he seems genuine enough. Nice guy but he's selling to buy a Toerag. They're a "VW family" he tells me which could be a deal breaker.
I hate VW's with a passion. Mainly due to the drivers...

Anyway. What is the REAL WORLD fuel consumption of the 3.0D's?

Before the decat and EGR bypass on the 530, I was getting an indicated 39mpg on a run. Afterwards I was getting and indicated 45.5mpg. working it out to fuel put in and mileage covered, that was an actual 41.81mpg.
I'm not expecting that from an X5 but need to know if owning one is actually going to be feasible before I go and waste this guys time..

Real world economy, i'm getting 25-26mpg all the time with a mix of town driving and B-roads. Did get 37mpg on a long motorway run with the cruise set at 75mph

Used to get 25 mpg driving in Central London and fast motorway from my 3.0d facelift. Would stretch to over 30 when cruising at speed limit.
Saw 23 mpg from my 4.8 the other day when limited to 50-60 with snow in France.

Had a test drive yesterday.
I like it.
Gearbox was VERY smooth and engine pulled well although mine still pulled well right until the very second the turbo went :)

More questions now though.. It had leather but not heated. Is that change the front seats and plug in the dash buttons or more complicated than that?
Also, the comms pack had the non digital tuner. Is there an easy addition to get that digital or is this costly?
It had the aux heating coded into the comms pack so is adding a telestart just buying it and all but plugging it in?

Thanks guys. Appreciate your help.

I can help with a couple:
Heated seat: yes - fit the seats with the heating elements and get the switch pack with the buttons and hey presto.
Non-digital tuner: most here seem to view this as an expensive option that works mainly when stationary (even with TV in motion enabled). I had the analogue version but rarely used it - only really when waiting for someone and bored!
Cant help with the aux heating but many threads here to search!

Yes, kinda !

Buy the T91 Telestart (normally being sold for a VW or Audi) and all you need do is snip the BMW connector in the boot by the battery and replace it with the cable that comes with the T91.

Heated Interiors on ebay typically vary from circa £400 for tatty Dakota up to circa £800 for mint Nappa. That said you might get back £300 if you sell yours.

Hybrid or digital tuners circa £400 & upwards. A correct switch panel can be courced for around £30-40.

Final upgrade cost will depend on what & how you source & sell.

Maybe worth doing the maths before haggling a deal or waiting for something else if the numbers are seriously out.

So.
Discussion turned to LPG and the cost.
And we can get an LPG bulk tank fitted at work for £250 and then the gas is 40p/L....

Is anyone running a converted 4.4?
What range do you get and what size tank have you got in the car?

Is anybody pumping their own gas or just buying from forecourts?

hi there,
Hope you are going to pay road duty on the lpg!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 94 litre donut tank in the boot (now no spare wheel) tyres filled with goo.
get around 225miles per fill (remember you will never get the tank to fill completely , about 80% is right)
buying from local lpg dealer 69.90 per litre.
had it fitted over 3 years ago and very happy with it.

Errr. Yeah. Of course. ..

So you're getting something like 13.6 to the gallon on gas.
Diesel is £1.289/L around here. Which is £5.8521/G And say 25mpg was achieved with a 3.0D. Thats 23.4p/mile
LPG is £3.17346/G @ 13.6mpg is 23.3p/mile.
Petrol at £5.67/G and at that consumption (I know it would be higher but for the sake of argument) would be 41.69p/mile

Your range on 75l of LPG is 225miles.
The 3.0D range should be 512miles having a 93l tank (£120 to fill it  )

I've got to go for the diesel.
I can't be doing with having to find an LPG station every 200 miles.
As much as I love V8's and the grunt, soundtrack etc.. it just wouldn't be practical.
