I've just replaced my VW Caddy with a Ford Transit Connect 2014, slightly off topic as you were asking about the full fat transit. But  I can say the new series transits are a massive improvement on the old model.
I suspect the connect is Focus based,  it is far superior to the Caddy. Very quiet, fantastic 6 speed manual, the dash is superb, the sound system is second to none SYNC voice activated USB/ Phone, USB, where you can select tracks from the iPhone, voice activated phone dialling . Spent the first week riding around in 4 th gear on the motorway as its so quiet. Steering must be electric as its so easy to manoeuvre .
Go and test drive, makes the Beemers feel dated. Good lookers too

Unfortunately I find with the 90 PS engine it's not a throw you back in the seat sort of performance, and does suffer from turbo lag somewhat, but compared to the competition it's a good all rounder, and being a ford, should be bulletproof.
As mentioned in my previos post, pretty impressive for a van
