New Tyres ... Which ones?

Post by Doc » Mon Feb 14, 2011 3:50 am

I'm looking to getall 4 Tyres changed.I have a 3.0 d Sport.

The 4 best quotes are:

Cooper 4xs -£510 all 4 fitted
Toyo Proxes-£630 all 4 fitted
Hankook RH06 - £570 all 4 fitted
Vredestein Sessanta £640 delivered ( fitting extra)

Any ideas which I should plunge for?
Anyone eith any advice who already has any of these?

Look forward to your advice

I'm doing the same as you - replacing 20s I take it?

I can comment on the Vreds, they are a summer compound so expect them the wear quicker.

The Toyos are currently my choice too, where have you sourced them fitted at that price?

Never considered the others as these are rated a better tyre...

I've got the Vreds on the front of my 4.8iS and will get them for the rears shortly when Bridgestone Duellers get down a little more. So far very impressed. Compared to Diamaris on before, they don't tramline and give a much better ride. Slightly worried by stories of wear but so far (15k) no major issues. However it is clearly a softer compound. Also slightly influenced by a superb set of Vred winter tyres I have.
I have Toyos on my Z1 and they seem pretty good.
Personal view but I would stick with reputable brands and I'm comfortable with Vredestein and Toyo.

Had Toyo Proxes ST on mine now for 2 weeks and they have changed the whole way the car feels.....wont be going back to runflats I can tell you.......the ride is smoother and their performance in the wet is amazing......

Having had the factory fit runflat on previously they are the only ones I have to compare to but will be my choice from now on

I have been running the Toyos on the rear (19's) for around 8 months now and same on the fronts for around 4 months. In a word my personal experience of these tyres is FANTASTIC. I am blown away by the price/performance.

They seem to have superb roadholding, with a tread pattern the result of high levels of R&D backed by Japanese integrity and probably helped by the slightly softer compound.

It also helps that they are a great looking tyre too and the brand is regarded as a premium name by most (at almost half the price of Diamaris!). Made in Japan is also quietly reassuring (compared to many "Made in China" variants).

All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending the Toyos. I count them as one of the best kept secrets in the tyre world and at the price quoted above they are a steal.
Mark

PS: When I was sourcing the fronts (255) before Xmas there was a major supply shortage and I struggled for a while.

Hi,

I had Yokahama Advan ST on my 4.4.......they were superb, and half the price of Michelins.

As soon as the tyres on the 4.8 I now have need replacing, thats what I shal go with.

Heres the tyre linky

Thanks for the advice so far....

I've got the staggerred 19's (255/50 front, 285/45 on rear)

The Toyo's are on tyretraders as a fitted price ( the front ones are ridiculously cheap £101 + fitting)

I've currently got Mickey's on at the moment but they are getting noisy ( i'm sure most do towards the end of their lives)....

I used Tyretraders for the rears (£114 per) and found their service and prices excellent.
Tyredrive for the fronts as there was scarce stock at the time (£124 per).

Same setup as yourself.

I had them delivered and got my friend who runs his own tyre/exhaust garage to fit them.

I've used Event Tyres for many years now and they've always provided an excellent mobile fitting service. I've never managed to find tyres cheaper elsewhere once fitting costs are in the equation either.

i.e. checking prices today, mobile fitted Toyos from tyretrader = £644. Fully fitted from event = £627
The only potential issue is that they are a regional (South East?) operation and don't cover all areas. Don't think they go much further North than me in Cambridge.

I have plunged for the Toyo Proxes off Camskills-

I'm having them delivered to a local fitter - will cost £540 plus fitting

came out £50 better off after fitting than event and tyretraders..

Will let everyone know how good service was from Camskill.

New Tyres ... Which ones?

Have used them for parts when I owned a Mitsubishi GTO and had no problems with them, delivered where I wanted and on time, would recommend.
