X5 e70 Halogen to HID conversion kit, worth it?

I have read lots of rhetoric online about HID conversion kits, their legality and effectiveness.
I have upgraded my cars halogen bulbs to the best Philips Halogens I think I can buy and they are still aweful.
From what it appears I have projectors for the dipped beams and have rear self leveling suspension. So am I alright to
install a conversion kit? Has anyone else done this on a e70? Would be nice to see if its even worth the bother.
Any recommended products to go for also? Dont want a bulb going after 6 weeks.
