Navigation via channel tunnel

At the tunnel now but can not make the nav go via tunnel, it insists on ferry and wants to go to Dover.

Never had this before with Satnav systems. It is set to fastest route.

Also, how can I see the route in general ?

Been out behind the wheel for the first time since Xmas, and some @€¥#%* smacked their trolley into my front bumper in B&Q and legged it. No cameras, no witnesses. Damaged the paint & plastic over about 1cm on the side, so will need spraying. It's not very bad, but I'm still fuming.

There is a train stuck in the tunnel hence delay.

Horrible about your car. That is why I had an argument with Eurotunnel person who wanted to squeeze another car on the car park next to me. I told them in no uncertain terms I was not going move !

Surgeon cleared me, but not solo. I have to have someone with me, as looking hard right is difficult, although possible. HRH is enforcing that rule believe me. I go nowhere alone. I'm being VERY careful believe me. Huge gap in front, gentle acceleration and being gentle on the brakes.

Hope you can get going soon. Surely they must be able to pull a train out quicker than that?!

We must have been at the tunnel at the same time! Then again the car park was full of x'5s. Got ther an hour early and still didn't leave till 4.30pm so had 4 hours at the tunnel. Wish I had looked at this. I could have inspected your new car

Anyway have found that google maps and other mapping software is adamant the only way to the continent Is by ferry. One of them to the point of putting in the channel tunnel and it still takes you back to Dover.

I use the tunnel so much that I tend to just do all of my routes from Calais.

The X5 is a tight fit (with 20") driving down the train. It's about an inch or twos clearance to the small raised curbs!
Often been tempted to use the oversized vehicle lane.

With the 20" & 21" rims fitted, the E71 X6 is 'technically' greater than 6' 6" wide (not including the mirrors), so I can't imagine the E70 X5 will be any different. It's only a few mm over the size (about 5mm ISTR), but it also means that in theory at least, you should not use a road or roadworks lane with a 6' 6" restriction. With 19" it's fine.

I was caught out when I brought my new X6 home to find it would not go through the standard single-width garage door, even with the mirrors folded...so she now lives outside (the car!!).

Having had an E53, it never occurred to me to check the width on the E71. Not that it would make a difference as I would still have bought the car anyway..

Perhaps the 'Porker' moniker so often attributed to Porsche should be re-assigned....

If you did choose to use the 'oversize' lane, would it affect the fares?

No, the fare is the same but there is limited availability.

However, even though I book high vehicle, I often get "demoted" as they don't want me to take a place in the high vehicle section (unnecessary as per them of course).

Some strange routing it tries, as I know the route very well and the E53 navigation did it "correct", I am a little surprised that the new system takes incorrect routes.

Also, is there really no way like in the E53 to get the route list visible? On the split screen I get the overview of the route, but on the E53 when selecting the route list I would get the list of place names and roads I would take which I liked as I would see if it was going to be right or not.

The lack of channel tunnel, even though it is visible on the actual map on the screen is baffling me though.
