General X5 Forum (F15) / Opening of automatic boot

What is really the trick to do this consistently? If I use the key, sometimes it just pops open, sometimes it opens fully. I generally press the key for 2 seconds or so.

The same with the rear lock by hand. If I keep holding it, it sometimes just pops open and other times opens fully.

How should it work?

The beast has landed. Great to drive, not so sure about the 6 mpg so far though  :'(

It has a lot more toys than the E70, and I have the sunroof again on this one (last time on the E53).

The heads up is good, the surround cameras very good as well (strangely enough I preferred the E70 surround cameras though). The finish with the alacantara roof is much nicer than on the E70, leather door cards give a nice touch to the finish.

Buy and sell / Winter wheels / Tyres for E70 - now sold
« on: March 27, 2018, 04:22:18 PM »
As my E70 40D is going this weekend, I am going to sell the winter as unfortunately, they don't fit on my new X5M.

They are the 255/55/18 tyres, mounted on the standard SE wheels. They have 6 mm tread on the Vredestein Wintrac Extreme.

Looking for £400 for the set.

Apologies that the wheel in the picture is dirty but have just come back  :))

General X5 Forum (F15) / Auto boot opening height
« on: March 15, 2018, 09:34:20 AM »
Can you adjust how high the boot opens? I am worried that it might clip the roller shutter door if I have not moved the car enough forward in the garage and I would hate to press the button for the boot to hit that.

On the E70, I just manually slow open the boot and if it does not clear it, I just hold it there.

General X5 Forum (E70) / My E70 - 40D, before it leaves me in March
« on: January 23, 2018, 04:21:46 PM »

The order for the X5M has been placed today, delivery sometimes in March so my faithful Carbon Black E70 40d M sport will then be going up for sale. It is the first BMW I have had with only a trivial warranty claim of the tail pipes edges going brown and had those replaced under warranty. Other than that, never had any claims for any work. With the service pack, never had any additional costs either.

I bought it new in 2012, in March as well and only done 31k in the 6 years.

General X5 Forum (F15) / 2018 X5
« on: December 01, 2017, 07:14:45 PM »
Next year, I am planning to swap the X5 40d for something else. I have had a brief look at the current X5M as the discounts are great, i.e. 20k on a new one which makes the price acceptable to some extend.

As there is a new model coming out next year, I would not want to buy the current model, but the only concern is that on a new model you would not get the same level of discount.

My alternative is the 2018 Cayenne S which also looks like it is going to be an interesting car. Anyway, some play thoughts for now until I try both.

Anyone ever driven an X5M by the way?

The lounge / digiGate launched
« on: September 29, 2017, 09:25:47 PM »
Over the last 3 years, with the help of some beta testers, the product is finally ready and ready for sale on www.digi-gate.co.uk

As there have been members from z4-forum and xdrivers who have assisted by being beta testers or simply providing suggestions, only members from these two sites will receive a 10% discount on the product which is not available anywhere else and will only be granted by directly contacting myself via IM.

The full info is available on the website, but below a few slides from the presentation that we use for the product.

The interest in the product is also coming from areas that I had not quite expected in advance, but certainly interesting.

General X5 Forum (E70) / Plastic wheel arch cover
« on: April 05, 2017, 08:59:14 PM »
How many times have people commented on the "scratch" on the rear door and you have had to explain that it is the edge of the protection plastic ...

Getting a little tired of it, three times last week alone.

Problems / Camera malfunction message
« on: March 19, 2017, 04:48:58 PM »
After I drove for about 12 hours in the rain yesterday I parked up and when selecting reverse, I got the camera malfunction message. Camera works as normal, but the message appear when I select top view or any of the other cameras. I have the 6 camera system.

I did notice a little bit of condensation in the rear view lens but that was gone this morning.

As I am in the Alps at the moment,  Very little I can do as such but it is annoying though. Message pops up each time after the camera is showing an image for about 5 seconds or so.

Thoughts?

General Discussion / Can a wheel bolt torque itself more
« on: April 20, 2016, 09:49:30 AM »
The annual change-wheels was attempted this weekend, but I could not remove the locking wheel nut at all.

I always torque the bolts at 140Nm each year, and swap the wheels. It always feels the same, however this year from one wheel I could not get the bolt undone at all. The only thing that happened since the wheel change was that I had an Inspection service + brake fluid at Vines.

As Vines was closed on sunday, I took it to Quickfit who could not remove the bolt either. So, took the car in to Vines today and they state that they never take wheels of the cars at any service unless they change pads.

Has anyone ever heard of self torquing bolts? The wheels have only been on there for 2.5 months this year.
