No problem with wanting a nice balance between power/speed and economy IMO.

Economy isn't a priority when purchasing an X5, but unless you're a multi-millionaire with cash to burn, it is a factor.

Just as a comparison our 3 series touring had the same engine as our E70 X5 but due to the extra weight, 4X4 system and aero dynamics of a brick the X5 is around 15mpg down on the motorway and around town.

to be fair all these things are done by the car, from a 4x4 i want to be able to burn fuel like its free, drive it like i stole it and kill hippies with the emissions just by driving past them ;)
The wife would say yes as she drives it on a daily basis and loves it, I would say no as for the price the E91 is a better car in most areas.

The motorway driving was not at an economical speed and the running around was with a heavy left foot :o
What were you doing with your left foot @kennif - and did your wife mind, as I assume she was sat to your left?

Phew - I was beginning to think there were a few more changes between my E53 4.4i Sport and my (soon to be delivered) F15 30d than I had envisaged.

How many miles to a tank full are you seeing, as the range is almost as important as the economy to me (although 50% better is not to be sniffed at)?

Nope - the 4.4V8 does just over 20mpg and I'm hoping for north of 30 from the 30d!

I've gone for Space Grey with chrome trim and black leather.

Ordered 19th December - into production and VIN notified 28/2/14 - estimated for delivery mid April (but secretly hoping for end of March)

30d MSport
Space Grey with Matt Aluminium exterior trim and Hex internal trim
Sun Protection Glass and Black Dakota leather
451 20" Y-spoke Alloys
Active Security, Connected Drive Packages
Comfort Access, Heated / Ventilated Comfort Seats, Heated Steering Wheel
Adaptive LED lighting with high beam assist
Driver Assist, Driver Assist Plus, Traffic Jam Assist
Reversing and Surround View Cameras, HUD with Speed Limit Display
Enhanced phone kit, luggage net

Got a £3k discount and a £1500 trade in against my 2000 E53 4.4i sport with 280,000 miles on the clock.
