Load capacity

Post by pvr » Tue Oct 23, 2012 5:58 pm

For the garage project, I need to pick up the tiles which apparently weigh 350 kg.

Is that ok for the boot to hold that weight?

Your maximum payload on a 5-seater is 500kgs, and that's evenly spread across both axles.  I would suggest 350kgs added just to the rear would probably not be a good idea.  It's in the back of the manual......(should sir wish to RTFM... :P ).  I would not imagine the boot floor would take the load anyway - not without something holding it up from below.

Maximum rear-axle weight is just over 1.5 tonnes.  No idea what the 'dry weight' is of an X5 rear end.

Seriously, I would either trailer them, or do it is a couple of loads, or hire/borrow a Transit Van.

No, can't be ar*ed to RTFM as I am at the keyboard and not in my car at the moment  :))

As it is only 15 miles or so to the factory where they make the tiles, I will do a couple of trips.

Wonder how much the Polo can take as well  :))

And why RTFM when I have someone who has all this useless info in their brain?  :P

glad to be of service.  If the tiles are small enough, you could try spreading them around the inside of the car.....some in the front and rear foot wells as well as the boot perhaps?  You aren't that heavy and it's only 4 adults plus a bit of luggage type weight really.

Wonder why the brochure states a max load of 680 kgs?  No doubt X5Sport has all the answers.  :))

Tiles are 50*50 and are studded PVC. 160 units in total to cover 40 sq m.

Is it worth. Asking how much for them to deliver them as they must have a big van or lorry ?

Purely a guess, but the 7-seater has a higher load capacity - though that only says 585kgs in my book (in the 'Weights' Section and it's a common manual so I was looking at the X5 bit).  Have all the versions been uprated in the last year perhaps?  ???
